Joseph Pilates During a Training Session
Joseph Pilates was born on December 9, 1883, in Mönchengladbach, near Düsseldorf, Germany. From a young age, he faced several health issues, including a thoracic deformity, rickets, asthma, and rheumatic pains. These afflictions led him to develop an early interest in anatomy and health. To improve his physical condition, he devoted himself passionately to various sports such as gymnastics, weightlifting, diving, and skiing.
Realizing that mental and physical well-being were deeply connected, Pilates opened himself to disciplines that were not widely known at the time, such as yoga and martial arts. This quest for overall balance became the foundation of the method he would develop. Believing that every movement should originate from the "center" of the body, he created exercises aimed at strengthening the deep muscles and improving posture.
Quickly, the Pilates method gained many followers, particularly in the world of dance. Icons like Martha Graham and George Balanchine adopted this approach and entrusted Joseph Pilates with training their own students. His teaching also attracted athletes and stage performers, further establishing the reputation of the method as a complete practice that is both gentle and powerful.
Joseph Pilates passed away in 1967 in New York at the age of 87. His method, to which he dedicated his life, allowed him to maintain excellent health until the end. Today, the Pilates method is taught and practiced worldwide. Whether in dance companies, theater troupes, performing arts schools, or fitness clubs, it continues to transform the lives of those who practice it, offering a comprehensive training system for the body and mind.
EXCELLENT Basée sur 87 avis Alice C2025-02-16Trustindex vérifie que la source originale de l'avis est Google. Clean and well-organized! The group class is limited to 6 people, so the coach was able to focus on everyone and correct our form to prevent injuries. There’s no locker, but it’s not a big problem I put my bag in the classroom. Annarita Salzillo2025-01-29Trustindex vérifie que la source originale de l'avis est Google. Clean studio!
